He was an avid sportsman and once tried out as a gymnast for the Olympics in the 1930s and enjoyed camping, boating and fishing. His other talents included cooking and building. He built a teardrop-style camping trailer for his family's camping vacations. He also was an avid rockhound and created many fine pieces of jewelry with varied rocks and minerals.
He is survived by one daughter, Mary Kathryn Charleston Vaquer, one grandson Armand M. Vaquer and one great-granddaughter, Amber Vaquer. He also has two half-sisters and one half-brother.
