Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was enrolled in the 10th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry, and was mustered in as a Corporal on October 8, 1861. He was reduced to Private on June 5, 1862, then was promoted back to Corporal on February 11, 1863, and to Sergeant on June 11, 1863. He served until he was discharged at Trenton, New Jersey on November 26, 1864.

On January 2, 1897 he filed for a United States Army Invalid Veterans Pension (Application #1184174, Certificate #1005337, PA).
