She was the third of twelve children born to Mr. and Mrs. Sherman N. Pierce, early residents in this part of Kansas. Three of the twelve Pierce children died in early childhood, but she was the first of the nine who grew to adulthood to depart this life.
She came to Marion County in 1870, when the Pierce family settled in the Youngtown community. Here she became an active worker the Youngtown Evangelical church. In February, 1884, with three of her sisters, she was converted and became a member in the full sense. From that time to the end of her life she gave a rich testimony of Christian experience. It was evident that her affections, her will, her desires and purposes where not her own but had been given to her Lord.
