Corporal James A. Lawson was a member of Company D, 578th Engineer Combat Battalion, 40th Infantry Division. He was killed by land mine fragments, when he accidentally stepped on a live friendly mine near Sinmok-Tong, Hwanghae-namdo, North Korea on May 6, 1952.

Jim was the son of Thomas Alvin Lawson (1893-1985) of Mercer Co, Ky and Ruth Sheffield Lawson (1893-1970) of Boone Co, In, brother of Mildred Jean Lawson (1921-1926), Boyd Lawson (still born July 26, 1922), Lloyd Russell "Sam" Lawson (twin of Boyd 1922-2004), John Woody "Jack" Lawson (1932-2008), Doris Evelyn Lawson Adams (1925- ) and Betty Lou Lawson Rorer (1929- ). Uncle of James Joseph Adams (1952- ), Jerry Wayne Adams (1955- ), Debra Ann Rorer Sauerman (1960- ) David Glen Rorer (1961- ), Daniel Wayne Rorer (1962- ), Donald Allen Rorer (1964- ), Douglas Rorer (1971- ), Pamela Rose Lawson (1966- ) and John Thomas "Tom" Lawson (1967- ). Jim was raised on a farm near Bloomingdale, In and graduated from Bloomingdale High School in 1945. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an excellent baseball player that had tryouts with the St Louis Browns and Cardinals before serving in the US Army. He was a Free Mason.
