Corporal James A. Lawson was a member of Company D, 578th Engineer Combat Battalion, 40th Infantry Division. He was killed by land mine fragments, when he accidentally stepped on a live friendly mine near Sinmok-Tong, Hwanghae-namdo, North Korea on May 6, 1952.

Jim was raised on a farm near Bloomingdale, In and graduated from Bloomingdale High School in 1945. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an excellent baseball player that had tryouts with the St Louis Browns and Cardinals before serving in the US Army. He was a Free Mason.
