The daughter of Col. Matthew and Susanna Morse Rogers, Arminda was born in Cooperstown, NY in 1803 and moved with her family to Illinois in 1818. The family relocated to Sangamon (now Menard) County in 1821.
On Sep. 5, 1831 Arminda married Amberry Rankin. The Rogers family were well educated and Arminda became a teacher. In 1835 Ann Rutledge (Abraham Lincoln's legendary "lost love") came to her for instruction prior to entering the Female Academy in Jacksonville, IL. Lincoln, a close friend of the family, would often accompany Ann to these sessions.
