J. ALVIN BACON
J. Alvin Bacon was born near Highland, Kans.. February 17, 1878, and died at his home in Cedaredge, November 15, 1926, being forty-eight years, eight months and twenty-eight days of age.
When a young man he worked as a farm-hand, and later took up barbering, which occupation he followed for several years. On June 9, 1903, he was united in marriage to Verna Curry at Hiawatha,, Kans. To this union was born one daughter, Miletta Bacon. In September of 1904. he, with his family, came to Cedaredge, which has since been their home. Seven years ago Mr. Bacon suffered an accident and has not been in rugged health from that time. For the last two and a half years he has been in failing health. Though he suffered intense pain a great part of the time, he was a patient sufferer and never complained. He underwent a serious operation at the Delta Hospital on August 28th and made a brave fight, but was too weak to overcome the difficulties. Being of a quiet and unassuming nature, he took no deep interest in public affairs, but his home was his sanctuary and no sacrifice was too great for him to make there. He belonged to the local Odd Fellow lodge and was a Past Grand in that organization. Deceased leaves to mourn his loss his wife and daughter, father and mother, two sisters, four brothers and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Cedaredge Community church on Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. L. J. Tuck assisted by Rev. A. S. Weeks. A male quartet and the church choir sang appropriate songs and Miss Ruth Picker of Olathe, a friend of Miss Bacon, rendered a solo. The Odd Fellows conducted a short service at the cemetery. The Champion extends condolences to the bereaved.
