John Carmelo Biagi "Our Family Saint", age 75, of Whiting, IN and formerly of East Chicago, loved life and lived it to the fullest, always giving praise to others. He had a wide beautiful smile, kind eyes and a laugh that just melted your heart. "Life is such a gift, live and enjoy," he would tell you. "Always do your best" and "work comes first." He was a stylish and simple man by nature; always a clean shave, wearing a matching baseball hat and polo shirt. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. His Catholic faith was first and foremost daily, even in his last days, his rosary; he asked that it remain by his side. John had a life-long love with many divine things: his faith, family, fine foods, enjoying new restaurants (especially Italian), music, musicals, concerts and summer concerts in the park, theater performances, vacations, an avid Cubs fan and weekly movies. He could tell you every movie that was out and what was good to see and what was a flop. Music was always a must; Doo-Wop his favorite. There was a radio or CD player in every room of the house, garage included. Not a ball game was to be missed, if you could not see it on television. Now, when it comes to the Italian food, spaghetti was his favorite. The Center for Visual & Performing Arts was the place of celebration for many family occasions at the Champagne Brunch, he loved all the theater performances here, and he was a member for many years. John was never a fan of getting cable TV, only watching the local channels, but was thoroughly interested in current affairs, news and politics, reading the newspaper daily. He was sure to keep you in the loop via texting. To see him with his grandson was pure delight. His smile lit up like a million Christmas lights at Bonner's Christmas Store in Frankenmuth, Michigan, a family favorite vacation spot. Andy was his pride and joy, just like his daughter Amanda when she was born. His love for children was pure joy; the element of their surprise and to see their faces light up. Tiffany, his great niece, looked forward to spending every birthday with him, a tradition he started the day she was born, he planned her parties with no detail untouched, she thinks that only he makes the best frosting and birthday cakes, not the Calumet Bakery, just her uncle John. John was a valued Steel Electrician at LTV for 40 Years, served with the US Army, 101st Paratroopers and Member of ISDA Cesare Battisi Lodge. His wife Linda Biagi nee Tunstall always said, "No one could hold a candle to her Johnny and that smile." - married for 32 blessed years, built on pure love and friendship, she passed seven years ago on April 1st. John was the son of the late Salvatore and the late Angeline Biagi. He is survived by his daughter Amanda (John) Fetsis/Biagi and was the proud "Papa" grandfather of Andrew "Andy" Patrick Counihan and step grandson Ari Fetsis. John also leaves behind his beloved sister, Rosemary (Jimmie) Manuel, sister Anna (Randy) Carlson and brother Billy (Bev) Manship, his sister-in-law, Emma Garwood, his niece Paula (James) Koons, nephew Jimmie (Alice) Manuel, niece Nancy (John) Lara, niece Jessica Leib, nephew Justin Carlson niece Angela (Ken) Moreau, and nephew Jason Manship, along with a list of many great nieces and nephews, godchildren, cousins, many dear friends and life-long best buddy, Arnie Zingo. John is looking forward to being reunited with his furry pal Oreo.
