Jewell Violet James was the daughter of Samuel Anthony James (1-22-1882 - 12-15-1959) and Della Martha Hodgson (10-19-1891 - 6-28-1979). Her siblings included: Elphy E. Lewis (12-10-1907 - 11-15-2006); Cloyd Owen James (10-27-1909 - 1917); Troy Othel James (12-23-1911 - 12-11-1992); Gracie C. Endicott (1917-2013 ); Clenton R. James (12-27-1912 - 12-24-1938); Clifford W. James (3-10-1921 - 7-3-2000); Clarice A. Heins (1924-2017 ); Vanton Darrell James (8-18-1927 - 12-1-1994); and Mack James (10-9-1930 -2020 ). She married Johnny M. Griffin(b 4-11-1913, d 2-15-1991) in Cureal, MO on 12-10-1934. Her children included: Sunny Joan (b 10-10-1935), Mureal Jean (b 12-13-1936), William Dale (b & d 6-29-1938),Jimmy Anthony (b 7-19-1939, d 4-28-2016), John Ray (b 8-9-1941), Linda Faye (b 5-24-1943), Joe Rex (b 12-3-1944, a US Army Veteran, d 2020), Susan Margaret (b 8-4-1948), Cynthia Jane (b 12-19-1951), & Pamela (b & d 7-19-1953). She was also grandmother to 9 grandchildren, and a great grandmother to 3. She was an accomplished housewife and ran the family ranch in her husband's absence. In the early 1990's, her hands were curved and disabled with debilitive arthritis. In the mid-1990's, she was severely disabled by a devastating stroke which took her ability to speak or move except for her left hand and some of her facial muscles. Grandma Griffin always had an extremely special place in my heart as I knew for a fact that I was unchallenged as her favorite grandson. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

LIFE: 87 Years, 10 Months

CAUSE OF DEATH: Complications following Stroke
