Born in West Hempfield Township the son of Henry & Sarah (Fridy) Albright, in 1860 he was a farmer presumably still living near or close to where he was born, although he is not found in that census. He stood 5' 7" tall and had brown hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Columbia, Lancaster County, September 1, 1861, as a private with Co. I, 23rd Pennsylvania Infantry, and promoted to corporal, date unknown. Shot in the right hand at the battle of Cold Harbor, the wound cost him his third finger, but he remained on the rolls and honorably discharged at term's end September 8, 1864.

He married Louisa Ann "Annie" L. Keller October 27, 1864, in West Hempfield Township and fathered Henry E. "Harry" (b. 08/10/66), Selma Louise (b. 09/01/68), William K. "Willie" (b. 06/23/71; d. 08/02/71), Joseph Wilmer (b. 08/02/73), and Willis George (b. 01/21/78). Cause of death is listed as "cerebral apoplexy.
