Lucia (Barrera) Aguirre was born September 16, 1933 to Pete and Martina Barrera, Sr. in Abilene, Texas. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic Academy in 1952. She married Richard Aguirre, Sr. on July 27, 1952. She was a homemaker and, together, they raised seven children until his death in 1986. No one could leave her home without tasting her homemade tamales or fresh tortillas. She was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church where she was president of the Creative Ladies. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, Pete Barrera, Jr. and her sister Barbara Aguirre. She is survived by Zulema Santiago (Juan), Rachel Moncibais (David), Ruben, Elsa Rivas (Manuel), Gilbert (Dominque), David (Carmen), all of Abilene; and Richard (Shari) of El Paso, Texas; Sixteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; her brothers: Martin Barrera of Abilene, David Barrera of Tacoma, Washington and her sister, Susan Burkett of Knoxville, Tennessee.
