Dr. Bowie joined VIA Metropolitan Transit Company as Director of Purchasing in September 1996 . He brought a remarkable educational and professional background to his position, and was especially valued for the way he shared his life knowledge at every opportunity. He attended college at Southern University in Baton Rouge, graduating with honors in Chemistry in 1963. Dr. Bowie was inducted into the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1967 after attaining the rank of Captain. His career highlights included tenure as an FBI agent, 1970 - 1977, and Assistant Supervisor of Special Agents . In 1975, he earned his master's degree in science. Then, in 1979, he earned his doctorate degree in philosophy. While residing in Altadena, Calif., he served as Chief of Operations and then as Purchasing Manager for the Los Angeles Transit Authority . Dr. Bowie showed his pride in the work ethic and dedication of VIA employees by voluntarily participating in special events honoring them. He made a difference in the lives of many people as evidenced by personal memories shared by his fellow employees. His presence is greatly missed!
