Papers Relating to the Transvaal, volume 7, 1899: "May 4th. Mrs. Appelbe, a British subject, wife of the Wesleyan Minister at Fordsburg, Johannesburg, and daughter of Mr. John Holden, J.P., of Folkestone, who was murderously assaulted by a gang of men on Friday at Langlaagte, died yesterday. Mr. Wilson, who was with Mrs. Appelbe at the time, is recovering. No arrests have been made."
