ANA MARÍA ALFARO (VENEGAS) of Pontiac, Michigan, died peacefully at the age of 84 on February 25, 2017. She was born to Julia Gonzales and José Venegas on January 17, 1933 in Lobatos, Zacatecas, Mexico. Loving mother of José Luis (Cheryl), María Graciela (Joseph), Ana Rosa, Sandra (Chris), Doreen (David) and Ignacio T. Alfaro, she is beloved grandmother of Joe (Renee), J.C. (Heather) and Mario Alfaro, Dañela, Miguel and Rafael Alfaro-Lopez, Juan, Anthony and Marisol; Cassondra and Victoria Salvati, David (Tonya) and Steven (Andrea) Curtis, Megan, Briana and Ciara, and Ignacio T. Alfaro, Jr., Dylan, Selina, Cody, Carlos, Jonathan, Anthony Jr., Andrea, Andrew, and cherished great-grandmother of Allison, Rylee and Payton Alfaro, Graceann, Asher, Skylar, Dance and Berkley Curtis, and Izzabella. Ana also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.

Ana María, with her late husband Ignacio A. Alfaro, came to Michigan as Mexican immigrants in the early 1950's, and in addition to raising their six children, became a consummate public servant, working tirelessly as a community and civic leader in Pontiac, an impassioned education worker and advocate, and a pioneering Latino activist and role model for many young Latinos. Ana will be greatly missed.

A private entombment at All Saints Cemetery in Waterford, Michigan, will take place on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 1 p.m.
