This information on Jane is taken from old cemetery records that contain typographical errors. For example, in the typewritten records, Jane's last name is spelled "Beard". These records are located at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Law Library in Springfield, Illinoi. The entry on Jane is copied below with the aforementioned error:

Carthage Cemetery
Lot No. 9
Jane Beard
Jan. 26, 1846
July 28, 1846
6 ms. 2 ds
(Burial July 29, 1846)

I have been to Lot 9 of Old Carthage Cemetery (t/k/a Carthage Cemetery) and found stones for most of the people said to be buried there. In June of 2014, no stone for Jane Baird was found; however, the next time I travel to Carthage, I will look again. Many stones in this cemetery are missing or perhaps buried. Several others have fallen and appear to have been moved out of the way, perhaps for mowing purposes. This has resulted in piles of stones grouped together. Additionally, there is a spot near Lot 9 that appears to have hosted bonfires. All other burials recorded for Lot 9 are persons related to Flora Manier's family, but so far I have not found a connection between the Baird family and Flora's family (other than they share this plot).
