Captured by ISIS terrorists and murdered.
Posthumously promoted to Captain.
Survived by his wife, Anwar al-Tarawneh. They were married in 2014.Jordanian military pilot who was captured and burned alive by the terrorist group called the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Muath was a first lieutenant in the Jordanian air force when his plane went down while taking part in a air strike against ISIS and was captured by the terrorists. He was promoted posthumously to the rank of Captain.

ISIS and the Jordan government were making plans to have him and reporter Kenji Goto (beheaded about January 31st, 2015) to be released if they released Sajida Mubarak Atrous al-Rishawi. The Jordanian first demanded proof if Muath was still alive.

In retaliation of his brutal murder, the Jordanian government ordered the executions of Sajida and Ziad Khalaf Raja al-Karbouly.
