***** Dad, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of you. I was just 6 yrs. old, Champ was 5 when we and Mom got word of your death. We were too young to understand this. Somehow, we survived as a family. After all these years, I am now able to tell you how deeply you have been missed and how great a sacrifice you and many others made on May 16th, 1965. There will never be enough words to express the loss of all the people impacted by the Bien Hoa explosion and other events in this war. May this country continue to stand strong.
Love, Your Daughter Cynthia Acosta Smith

***** Jesse, you and I served together but for one year. You were my best friend. I went over right after the massive accident at Bien Hoa. I took me this long (1965-2003) to be able to express my heartfelt grief. Be patient my friend, I will come and visit, and bring the gift I have been saving for you these many years.
