Miss Dora Bell Hamby, 55, died Sunday morning at her home near Taylor's Chapel. She was born and reared in this county and had taught in the public schools here for more than 35 years, and was considered one of the county's best teachers. She was so devoted to her profession that, although ill, she finished out the school year only 4 weeks before her death, which was caused by cancer.
Her father, E G Hamby, preceded her in death in May, 1934 and her mother died in January 1925.
She was a member of the M E Church South for 39 years. Funeral services were held at Taylor's Chapel Monday at 2 p.m. with Rev E C Edens officiating.
Miss Hamby is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs Wesley Moore, Taylor's Chapel; Mrs Nota Chastain, Pleasant Hill; one brother, Fred L Hamby, who remains at home.
