John "Pop" Alford, age 64, of Heidrick and formerly of the Warren Community, was born on Sept. 15, 1937 at Middlesboro to the late George Alford and Gertrude Smith Alford. Mr. Alford died Monday Oct. 1, 2001 in the Knox County Hospital.

He was the member of the Baptist Church.

Mr. Alford is survived by his sisters, Janice Pope of Dayton, Ohio, Lila Hamilton and husband, Marvin of Artemus, "Tooter" Girtie Blevins and husband Burton Jr. of Heidrick; his brothers, Orville Alford and wife Mary Jo and Hubert "Dink" Alford and wife Helen all of Corbin; a special sister-in-law, Joann Alford of Boone Height; two aunts and one uncle; nine nieces and nephews and nine great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for John "Pop" Alford were conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, Thursday, Oct 4, 2001 with Rev. Arnold Petery and Rev. B.F. Jackson officiating. Internment was in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Hopper Funeral Home.
