David Ellis Craner was an officer for many years with Bank of America in Los Angeles, California. He was the husband of almost 60 years of Ethel Ann Slaughter Craner whom he married in Boise, Idaho, in 1934. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
He and his wife were the subjects once of a kidnapping plot. Unbeknownst to them, kidnappers were planning to kidnap them for ransom from Bank of America of which Mr. Craner was a vice president. The perpetrators were apprehended before the plan could be put into action and Mr. and Mrs. Craner were notified by then district attorney Vincent Bugliosi, of Helter Skelter fame, as to the plot and its details.
After retirement and in the early 1980s, he and his wife moved to Edwardsville, Kansas, to be nearer their son and his family. They were beloved members of the community and loved their little poodle, Jacques.
At the time of his death, he was survived by Mrs. Craner, his wife of almost 60 years, his son and daughter-in-law, Walt and Marilyn Craner of Pine Mountain, Georgia, grandchildren David and Daniel Craner and Karen Hays, all of Overland Park, Kansas, Diane Alexander of Charlotte, North Carolina, Linda Davenport of Avon, Ohio, and Rick Deeken of Kansas City, Missouri, and several great grandchildren.
