Wilhelmina Augusta (Zeuner) Wend was born in St Louis, Missouri to Rheinhardt and Marie Hedwig Badensteuben. Her mother died when she was four years old and for a few years Minnie, her older sister Maria and infant brother Emil (born 1891 but appears not to have lived long)were placed in an orphanage, until her father married again. By her father's second marriage Wilhemina had two brothers, Rheinhardt and Emil, and sister Augusta.
She married Emil Louis Wend on September 25, 1905 and had five children Vanita (1907), Milton (1909), Emil Paul (1911), Karl (1916) and Albert (1924). She was a homemaker and helped in the family business. Wilhelmina was troubled in later life by severe arthritis.
