BANKS: Johnnie (John) Banks departed this life after a brief illness on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at St. Vincent's Hospital. He was born November 29, 1940 and reared in Opelika, Ala. to Eugene Banks and Annie Mae Baker who preceded him to death. He enlisted in the military and was a Vietnam veteran, before relocating to Bridgeport, where he resided until his death. John committed his life to Christ early in 1990. John was a boxing and a karate trainer. He loved taking photographs as a special hobby. John leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sallie Webb Banks; one daughter, Denise Banks from a previous marriage to the former Ruby Wright; two stepchildren, Kimberly and Kenneth Smith; two grandchildren, Cordea Brimson and Ryan Donar; a sister, Melinda (Doddie) Kirk of Tennessee; and a host of in-laws, friends, and associates. Calling hours will be Thursday, October 19, 2006 from 10 to 11 a.m. in Lester Gee Funeral Home, 1390 Fairfield Avenue Bridgeport. Service will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in National Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT.
