Frederick A. "Freddy A" Alicandro, age 72, of Norwalk, died Thursday, September 11, 2008, at the Stamford Hospital. He was the husband of Leonilda "Lee" D'Alessio Alicandro. Born in Stamford March 21, 1936, he was the son of the late Bernardino and Josephine Petrucelli Alicandro and had lived in Darien for most of his life, graduating from Darien High School in 1954. He has resided in Norwalk since 1972. Fred served in the U.S. Army during peacetime and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he had worked for 37 years. He was a member of the Piedmont Club in Darien and was honored by the Darien Old Timers in 1999 for his high school sports accomplishments. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, gourmet cooking, long walks and following the UCONN Huskies girls basketball team. He was also well known for his bartending skills at his sister's restaurant, Lucia's, in Darien and was an active member of St. Joseph's Church. Fred was very devoted to his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors also include 2 daughters, Rosemary Guerrero Nanista and her husband Jeffrey of Norwalk, and Toni Guerrero Palladino and her husband Ralph of New Canaan, 3 sisters, Mary Delia of Darien, Ida Henry and Lee Heitz, both of Tampa, FL, a brother, Richard Alicandro of Darien, 5 grandchildren, Lauren, Megan and Nicky Palladino and Kirstyn and Gemma Nanista, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Lucia Anderson, Stella Santoro, Joseph, Daniel and Laura Alicandro.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, 11 AM at St. Joseph Church, 85 South Main St., Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Norwalk. The family will receive friends at the MAGNER FUNERAL HOME, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk, on Sunday from 3-7 PM.
