He was a former NYC Motorcycle policeman in Brooklyn since 1927. His mass was held in October 1943 with over 1,000 policeman attending. He was survived by his widow Mrs. Marie Abbey and parents Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Abbey of Rego Park, Queens. He was flying a single seat fighter plane and was with the first mapping group of the 16th Photographic Squadron of the army air corps.
Another plane went out to search for him and crashed in the jungle. They were recovered and buried with him until the later 1940's when they too were disinterred and returned to the United States.
Disinterred January 26, 1948 and returned home March 18 1948. He was reburied at St John Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens County, His widow was buried there in 1993.
