James L. "Jim" Aikens, 78, of 116 Perishing St., died Tuesday at Duplin General Hospital in Kenansville.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 12:30 at the Evangelical Fellowship Center, 120 South Center St., Mount Olive. Dr. Curtis Lee will officiate. Burial will be in the Devotional Gardens.

Mr. Aikens was a native of LaFayette, Ga., and was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Christine Madden Aikens, and is survived by his wife, Dora Aikens of the home; one daughter, Heleana Lovelace of Warsaw; one grandchild; and four great-grandchildren.

The viewing hours will be on Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Rhodes Funeral Home in Warsaw. The family will assemble at the residence at 11:15 on Friday to prepare for the funeral.
