Daughter of Moses and Lucy Smith Kirkpatrick, Polly married William Alexander in Cumberland County, Kentucky on June 12, 1806. While she was in her indigo garden on June 17, 1813, she was accidentally shot and killed by a neighbor, William Gee, who was trying to shoot a squirrel. The location of her grave is unknown, but most probably on the land where she and William made their home. The Andrews Cemetery in Monroe County had not yet been established at this early date.
