Dr. B.V. Dickson was named for his grandfather, Banyan Payne. He was the only son of James Fentress and Rachel Payne Dickson. In 1902 he married Charlotte "Lottie" Harsson and they had two daughters, Laura who died as a toddler, and Fentress Dickson. Banyan V. Dickson practiced medicine in his home county of Tipton for the duration of his life. For several years his widowed mother, Rachel, lived in his home and he was her attending physician at the time of her death at the age of 93. Following the death of his first wife, he remarried in 1932. His second wife, Carrie, was Charlotte's sister. Dr. Dickson became ill with tuberculosis and died at a Memphis hospital.
