Wayne Edward Ahlers, 80, of Springfield, IL died at 9:10 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Friendship Nursing Home in Carlinville. He was born April 2, 1932 in Springfield, IL. He married Sandra Kaufman on July 14, 1956.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are his wife Sandra, two daughters, Gaye Lynn Ahlers and Suzanne Ahlers-McGill, two grandchildren, Nolan McGill and Molly Jo McGill.
He attended Bunn Grade School and Lanphier High School; he graduated in 1950. Wayne then served in the Army during the Korean War as a Military Policeman.
After leaving the service, he worked at Sangamo Electric for several years. Wayne was in the food business as an owner and/or manager of several restaurants, beginning with the Cavalier in Carlinville from 1961-66. His most recent venture was as owner and manager of Vic's Pizza in Springfield from 1975-1998. During that time, Vic's Pizza was well known not only in the Springfield area, but also across the US and in several foreign countries because of its fine pizza and other Italian foods. Wayne enjoyed playing and watching golf and was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan.
Camp Butler National Cemetery Military Honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
