Chance is my beagle/dauschand dog who came into my life when my daughter rescued him from the Humane Society just one day before he was to be put-down. She took him back to her apartment but then discovered that she was not allowed to have pets (just geribals or fish.) So she brought him over to stay with me until she could find a place that allowed dogs. Her lease did not end for a year, so when the year ended and she still had not found a place that accepted pets, Chance ended up living the rest of his life with me. There was no need to tell her that after all that time, he was now my dog, and I was not going to give him up. The last day of his life came when the vet. discovered he had a bump over one eye that turned out to be located not near his eye, but inside his brain. There was nothing they could do, so holding him for the last time in my arms, he licked me good-by, I kissed him, told him I loved him and that I would see him in heaven, then the vet. put him to sleep. His ashes are in a cement slab with his picture on the front, along with his name, birth and death years and a special message. The slab lays in my backyard, so I can visit him anytime I want. It's never good-by, it's "I'll see you later!" My heart is broken without you, but all pets go to heaven.
