James W. Adams, Jr.
(September 28, 1922 - May 1, 2008)
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - James William Adams, Jr., age 85, of Corpus Christi, died Thursday, May 1, 2008 after a five-year battle with Parkinson's Disease.
He was born September 28, 1922 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the only child of the late Josephine Wilkins Adams and James William Adams, and was proud to tell people that he was related to the second president of the United States, John Adams. James served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alabama, attended the University of Virginia, and also received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oklahoma. During the 1970's he worked as a geologist on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, and enjoyed working as a geologist until he retired due to his health in 2004.
James was an avid tennis player, playing at HEB and Cruse Tennis Centers in Corpus Christi until he was 81 years old. He was a member of the South Texas Bridge Association, having attained the rank of Advanced Senior Master. He was also a member of the Corpus Christi Geological Society, and was a past-president of the Conquistadors Social Club.
Survivors include his friends and caregivers, Trey and Karen Andrews of Corpus Christi; and two cousins, Leila Wilkins O'Keefe of Pine Bluff, Arkansas and James Collier of Rogers, Arkansas.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, May 7 in Bellwood Cemetery.
