CLARANCE DAMON AKRIDGE, Age 75, of Hardinsburg, KY died Sunday, August 3, 2014 at his residence.
Damon was born on July 28, 1939 in Roachville, KY to the late Marvin and Marie Peterson Akridge. He was a member of Hites Run Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday School for several years.
As well as farming all of his life, Damon taught school for 31 years at Frederick Fraize High School in Cloverport, KY. He coached basketball for 20 of those years and was the first girl's head basketball coach in Cloverport. He also worked for the Corp. of Engineers for over 25 years.
Damon was a fisherman, gardener, watermelon connoisseur, master story teller, an avid reader, and most of all, the #1 Cloverport ACES fan!
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Linda McCoy Akridge; 2 daughters, Kathy Ellis (Kent) of Stanford, KY; Kabrina Akridge of Louisville, KY; a son, Todd Akridge of Hardinsburg, KY; 2 brothers, Clyde Akridge (Dwalla) and Leslie Akridge, both of Campbellsville, KY; 2 sisters, Lottie Newcomb of Campbellsville, KY, and Mary Powers of Lexington, KY. He is also survived by 3 granddaughters, Presley; Megan; & Alissa Ellis, and 1 great-grandson, Judah Thornton.
Visitation was held at Burns Funeral Home in Cloverport, KY, Wednesday, August 6, 2014, 5-8 p.m. and Thursday, August 7, 2014, after 9 a.m. until time for services.
Funeral Services were held at the Cloverport Baptist Church, Thursday, August 7, 2014, 1:00 p.m. with burial in the Cloverport Cemetery, Cloverport, KY.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of donations to Hites Run Baptist Church; "A Pocket Full of Hope" 408 Meadow Court, Hardinsburg, KY 40143; or to the Cloverport Schools Athletic Department.
