Bennett, James SAN DIEGO -- Jim Bennett passed in his sleep December 12, 2013. He was born April 1, 1925 in Ottawa, Ohio. After high school, he joined the Navy. While stationed in San Diego, he met Doris Evans and were married in June 1947. Jim continued his college education and graduated from San Diego State. For thirty years he worked in the insurance industry, as a claims adjuster and later as the owner of his own insurance agency. Jim loved the Lord and served him as a Deacon at College Avenue Baptist Church and as a board member of the SD City Rescue Mission. In 1983, he left the insurance business to work at General Dynamics, as a Logistics Engineer, keeping track of jet airliner parts from all over the world. When G.D. closed, Jim retired and spent time enjoying his two favorite hobbies, golfing and building and flying model airplanes. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris; sons Keith and Kirk and their families. A memorial celebration will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at College Avenue Baptist Church in San Diego.
