Lawrence Abeyta, 84, of Erie, Colorado died December 1, 2016 at his home. Lawrence was born on April 10, 1932 in Mead, Colorado. He attended school in Mead until he was twelve years old. He left school to work as a farm hand with his father. On May 12, 1952, at the age of 20, Lawrence was drafted into the U.S. Army. He entered basic training at Ft. Bliss, TX. He was sent to Korea by way of Missouri, Massachusetts, Columbia, Panama and Japan. He served in the 8th U.S. Army 44th Antiaircraft Artillery Brigade 398th AAA AW Bn. He received the Korea Service Medal, W/2 Bronze Stars, U.N. Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was in the cities of Inchon, Seoul and Yong Dong. He was honorably discharged on March 31, 1954. On July 1, 1954, he married Carmen Munoz. Lawrence worked several years at the Great Western sugar factory in Longmont, CO. Later he worked for the Asphalt Paving Company in Golden, CO. for 37 years. He also worked at the Lafayette, CO. Wal-Mart Store. Lawrence was a member of the Frederick Spanish Foursquare Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Sarah Abeyta, his brother Tony Abeyta and sister Jenny Garcia. He is survived by his wife Carmen, son Barney, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren
