MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2008
MALONE — Pauline L. Allen, 80, formerly of Malone, died Saturday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Constance Drollette, West Plattsburgh, where she was under the care of her family and Hospice of the North Country.

Mrs. Allen was a housekeeper for several families in the Malone area. She later was employed at Carmel Corn and then at Durham's Market in the vegetable and meat departments, after which she was a housekeeper for the Durham family until retiring.

Born Nov. 29, 1927, in Malone, she was a daughter of Albert and Pearl Dupra Lamica.

She married Carmen G. Allen on March 5, 1946, at St. John Bosco Church. He died Oct. 13, 1957.

Mrs. Allen was known for her poetry including "Mother's Poems," first and second editions, which were published in the Library of Congress, and received a poet laureate award. She was a communicant of St. John Bosco Church and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She enjoyed bingo, bowling, playing the guitar and organ, writing songs, crocheting, birdwatching, cooking, and boating on the Hudson River.

Surviving besides her daughter and son-in-law (Howard Drollette)are six sons and four daughters-in-law, Carmen G. Jr. and Edna, North Bangor, Anthony and Darlene, Morrisonville, Jack and Trudy, Lee Center, Timothy and his companion, Donna Snyder, Dickinson Center, Lou and Margaret "Peggy," Cadyville, and Lance Allen, Dannemora; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Rita Lamica, both of Malone; a brother-in-law, Charles "Dude" Allen, Malone; 27 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A son, Marty, and a daughter, Jill Favaro Taylor, died in 2001. Six brothers, Lee, Herbert, Donald, Armand, Leslie and Willard Lamica, and three sisters, Norma Lamica, Loretta Allen and Esther Poirier, also died before her.

A funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Bosco Church.

Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home.

Donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country.
