Louisa was the daughter of John William Patterson and Louisa DeHart. She married on 5 October 1830 (as his second wife) John Allan, the foster father of Edgar Allan Poe. They had three children. Unlike Allan's first wife Frances, who cherished young Edgar, Louisa reportedly had a somewhat contentious relationship with him.
She died at 3 S. 5th Street of "Erisypelas," per Cemetery records. She is buried next to her husband in his plot.
