ABINGDON - Florence Mae Abel, 93, a resident of the Care Center of Abingdon, died at 5:10 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 25, 1994) in the nursing home.
She was born Aug. 19, 1901, in Aiken County, Minn., the daughter of Norman and Emma Lugar Bennett.
She married Henry Abel on Sept. 16, 1919, in Abingdon. He died Nov. 16, 1955.
Surviving are three daughters, Norma Andrews, Abingdon, Marilyn Rookaird, Denver, Colo., and Linda Hills, Galesburg; one brother, Thomas Bennett, Decatur; one sister, Verla Snell, St. Augustine, 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, one brother, two sisters and one grandson.
She worked at the former Blue Bell Manufacturing Co. plant here for several years.
She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ here for more than 77 years.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel, Abingdon, with the Rev. Jon Prain officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday until the service; the family will not be present. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.
Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church of Christ and to Care Center of Abingdon.
