Clifton "Cliff" Adams was an outstanding basketball and football coach at Elgin High School. In twelve seasons (1924-36) his basketball Maroons compiled a record of 175 wins against only 75 losses. They captured four conference championships. In 1925 they went "all the way" and brought the Illinois State High School Basketball Championship to Elgin. His varsity football teams were 17—17—9 in five seasons (1930—34).

GILSON - Clifton E Adams, 86, Gilson, died Saturday at 9:05AM in the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville.
He was born in Elmwood April 1, 1894. He married Frances Gehring in Galesburg August 12, 1924. She died in 1974.
Surviving are a son, Henry of Danville, and a sister, Mrs Vera Brittingham, Galesburg.
He was a teacher and coach, and farmed in the Maquon and Gilson areas.
He coached two state championship basketball teams in Elgin. He was a member of the National Rules Committee for High School Football. He organized the Izaak Walton League in Elgin.
He was president of the Knox County Board of School Trustees and was a 50-year Club member of Knox and Lombard Colleges. He was a member of the Knox County Farm Bureau, the board of the Newman School restoration project, and Maquon American Legion Post, and was a veteran of World War I.
He was graduated from Lombard College and received a master's degree from the University of Illinois.
Funeral will be Tuesday at 3:30PM in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel, Galesburg, with Rev Constant Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home {text unreadable} the service.
