From his obituary (published 8 Jan 2002 in the Press Democrat, p. B2, by Mike McCoy.): "Longtime Santa Rosa resident Emil A. Ahner loved fishing, music and throwing his voice. Ahner, an amateur ventriloquist, died at a local convalescent hospital Friday. He was 86. "Born in Streeter, N.D., Ahner moved to Santa Rosa in the mid-1940s, where he worked most of his life as supervisor with Northwestern Pacific Railroad. "He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II. "Thelma Ahner of Santa Rosa said her brother-in-law ``was very musical and loved to play his electric guitar.'' "One of his favorite hobbies was ventriloquism. 'He had a little puppet and he would go to different places to perform for family and friends,' she said. ``'He also liked poetry, writing plays and fishing,' she said. "Ahner is survived by his wife, Clarcy Ahner of Santa Rosa; five sisters and four brothers including Ed Ahner of Santa Rosa; and numerous nieces and nephews. "Private burial in the veterans' section of Santa Rosa Memorial Park is set for today."
