~~~My Paternal Uncle, One of the greatest Uncles one could wish for~~~
Beloved husband of Mary "Chickie"(nee Canberg). Devoted father of Barbara,(Jose) Robert Jr. (JoAnn), Mary (Leo)and Carol (Bob).Grandfather to 10 grandchildren.Robert Veech was my Uncle.He was the oldest son of Noble and Florence. He was also the oldest of the two brothers, Edward was his younger brother and my beloved father.My father used to love saying he was the "older" brother.They had a wonderful relationship.
He fought proudly in the Marines during WWII,receiving a Purple Heart and was a New York City Police Detective for more than 30 years.
He was also the oldest of the two brothers, Edward was his younger brother and my beloved father.My father used to love saying he was the "older" brother.My father once told me"you can tell anything to Bob and he keeps his mouth shut".To my father, family and loyalty were paramount and his brother was everything he admired in people. I know my Dad loved and respected him a great deal. He had a wonderful sense of humor, as did my dad. Uncle Bob had a drier sense of humor and could crack wise with the best of them.Whenever my father saw or read something funny he would call Bob to tell him.
As they grew older they would plan trips together, Uncle Bob and Aunt Chickie and my Mom and Dad.I have video's of those trips now, and they are priceless.You can hear my Uncle hysterical laughing after making what my mother would have called a "potty joke".Actually you would hear all four of them laughing.Both him and my Dad were big "hams" in front of the camera as well, they practically pushed each other out of the way at picture time.
My Dad was hysterical when I received my wedding proofs back, at ALL the table pictures was my Uncle Bob. LOL Even on my husbands side of the family, Uncle Bob moved right around with the photographer.We all thought it was hysterical. They all got along so well.
My Uncle was called home on the 7th of April 1998, my parents 42nd wedding anniversary.My father did not outwardly show it, but he was devastated by the loss of his "big" brother. They were more than brothers, they were "best friends".It was the first time I ever saw my father cry.The only time I saw my father cry, until my mother went home to be with God. It gives me comfort to think of the four of them up there together. I am sure Uncle Bob is still telling jokes and my father once again has his "Best Friend" back.Robert Veech Sr. was a good, humble, faithful man.He fought for his country and loved his family. Thank you to whoever started this memorial for sending it to me.Bob was so much more than a name and a plot number and the world was a better place for having known him.
