Ruby Maxine Rohrbough Alkire, 92, formerly of 234 South Main Avenue, Weston, passed away at 6:25 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2008, in Crestview Nursing Home of Jane Lew, following an extended illness. She was born in Hyre on July 5, 1915; daughter of the late George O. and Ida (Pletcher) Rohrbough. Mrs. Alkire was married to Darius Alkire, who preceded her in death in 1990.
Maxine is survived by caregivers, niece Rita J. Weaver and great-nephew, Robert Weaver, both of Weston. Other survivors include eight nieces and nephews, through many great to great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Dewey and Virgil Rohrbough; and six sisters, Mrs. A.W. (Dale) Pickens, Mrs. M.K. (Vivian) Nall, Mrs. L.J. (Opal) Cunningham, Mrs. M.J. (Bayrene) Foster, Mrs. H.F. (Freda) Steinbeck and Virginia Rohrbough.
Maxine was the last surviving member of the George O. Rohrbough family. She was Methodist and a faithful supporter of the Broad Street United Methodist Church of Weston. Mrs. Alkire was employed at a self-service market of Weston, Stuart and Rohrbough Bookstore, and the Weston State Hospital, retiring in 1978 with 21 years of service. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 16, at 11 a.m. from Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew with Reverend Clifford West officiating. Interment will follow services at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Hardman-Paletti FUneral Home of Weston is in charge of arrangements for Ruby Alkire.
