County Native, Daughter Die in 2-Car Crash

Double funeral service will be held on Wednesday for a Huntingdon County native and his daughter, both residents of Greenwood, who early Saturday evening were killed on Route 220, two miles north of Altoona. They are George H. Alley, S8, of 635 Harvard Lane, Greenwood, and Mrs. Dorothy J. Moyer, 31, of 717 Princeton Road, Greenwood. Alley was born in Spruce Creek. Alley was driving a station wagon along Route 220 and his daughter was a passenger in the vehicle. They were struck head on by a auto driven by Dal W. Sogan, 18, of 1823 Fourth Avenue, Juniata, Altoona. Cogan was seriously injured in the crash and is a patient in the Altoona Mercy Hospital. The former county man died of shock, internal injuries and a neck fracture. His daughter died of shock and internal injuries. Authorities said that both apparently had been thrown from the station wagon. The father was pronounced dead at the scene and his daughter died about 35 minutes later in Mercy Hospital. Alley was born Aug. 18, 1906 at Spruce Creek, a son of Thomas W. and,Annie Bonsell Alley. On Aug. 14, 1926 he was married to Helen E. DeWitt. Surviving are the widow, daughters Mrs. Grace Hartz, Bellwood; Mrs. Helen Oldhan, Blue Knob; Mrs. Annie Rutledge, Juniata; Mrs. Shirley Wilt, Altoona, sons George T., Franklin, both of Altoona, and Reynolds, at home; a step-son, Edward R. Becker, Altoona; 20 grandchildren and a great grandchild.He was and a member of the First Methodist Church, Bellwood, and a former employee of the City of Altoona. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p. m. at the Johnson Mortuary, Bellwood, in charge of the Rev. Joseph G. Rigby. Burial will be in Logan Valley Cemetery
