We rescued my beautiful Pennygirl and her sister Sofie when they were two months old. They were inseparable until Sofie's unexpected death in 2006. Penny was never quite the same afterwards, and was not thrilled with her new brother and sister when they came along! But she slowly adjusted to the idea and tolerated them, even cleaning and caring for them.
Pennygirl was my best friend. She liked to 'talk' and she slept with us every night next to my pillow. She loved to sit on my lap and follow me around the house.
I still struggle with my decision to have Penny put to sleep when she was just 11 years old. I miss her so very much, but I believe in my heart that she's with her beloved Sofie and is now truly at peace.
