Death of Mrs. M.H. Austin
Mrs., Mary H. Austin, 76 years of
Age, passed away at her home early
Tuesday morning from a heart attack.
She became ill about 6 o'clock
And called her granddaughter, Mary
Baker. At 10 o'clock she passed
Away.

Mrs. Austin was among the early
Settlers of this section, coming from
Her native state, Ohio in 1878. She
Will be greatly missed by her many
Friends and neighbors, as she was
Of cheerful and kindly disposition.
Funeral services will be held from
The M. E. Church Saturday at 2 P.M.

Mary Lulu Howard was born it Monroe, Ashtabula Co. Ohio, Aug. 18, 1857. She was the daughter of Jeremiah and Fanny Howard. She grew to womanhood in this same community as was married to Jesse S. Austin, Sept. 17, 1877.

She moved to Kansas with her husband and small son in 1878 and resided on what is known now as the Eldo Jones farm east of Burrton. After a year's residence in Kansas they moved back to the old home in Ohio and lived there about two years when they came back to Kansas on account of her health.

They resided on various farms east of Burrton until the year 1887 when they moved into Burrton and established a home at the north edge of town where they lived until February, 1899, when they moved to Larned, staying there until Oct. 1900.

The family then moved to Colorado Springs for her health, remaining there about two years. From there the family moved to Wichita, Kansas residing at 1527 South Water St. until the spring of 1909, when they moved to a farm a few miles south of Burrton living there about one years.

Then they established the home in east side of Burrton where she has lived until her passing on February 27, 1934.

To this union were born 12 children, three of whom have preceded her into the Great Beyond.

Also her husband who passed away Dec. 12, 1918, at Wichita, Kansas.

Mrs. Austin united with the M. E. Church in Burrton and remained a faithful member. She was a charter member of the local American Legion Auxiliary, a Gold Star mother, a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, an organizer of the Birthday Club in southeast Burrton, a pioneer mother, and a love of the good and beautiful.

The children left to mourn her loss are:

Geo. C. Austin, Bucklin, Kansas; J. Howard Austin, Cherokee, Okla; Elsie A. McLeod, Walla Walla, Wash; Howard Austin, El Dorado, Kansas; Mary E. Lynn, Fort Lyon, Colorado; Lela A. Baker, Hartley, Texas; Miles N. Austin, Farley, New Mexico, Fanny A. Rook, Walla Walla, Washington; Dorothea Yates, Hutchinson, Kansas.

Those children who have passed away are Lynford Maxwell, Wayne Gordon and Ady Wall Austin.

Besides the children she leaves a daughter-in-law Mrs. Ady Austin, Vancouver, Washington, twenty-eight grand children and eight great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church in Burrton, Rev. Edward Doherty, pastor of the M. E. Church officiating, assisted by Rev. G. C. Stewart , past of Friendship Baptist church. Interment was made in Burrton Cemetery
