George became one of the highest producing farmers of the area in Harrisburg, Van Buren, Iowa. I do not know when Polly died, but the family is together in the 1870 census for Harrisburg.
George married Elizabeth Francis Curtis, 11 Sep 1875, in Harrisburg, Iowa. The couple are found in the 1880 census for Phoenix, Jackson, Oregon. Elizabeth had previously been an art teacher and George became a book salesman. His brother Henry had been very involved with the forming and collecting of books for a library in Ames, Athens, Ohio, and so I suspect that the enthusiasm for spreading education was a motivation that was formed early in his life. I picture an elderly man with a horse drawn wagon traveling the most beautiful trails to visit neighbors with a collection of art and treasured books, bartering on the way, talking about the latest news and just enjoying the company of a young wife.
George and Polly's daughter "Sadie" Fell was found traveling to Canada with artwork, and in one census her husband, David M. Fell, was listed as being an artist.
