Goldie C. Anders, age 91 of Brooten, died Saturday afternoon, January 14, 2006 at the Belgrade Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten with Rev. Mary Lunde officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade. In Lieu of flowers, Memorials are preferred.
Goldie Clara Bessie Orton Anders was born on June 29, 1914, near Belgrade, the daughter of Levi and Sophia (Hofmann) Orton. She was baptized in Belgrade and confirmed in the Christian faith at Trinity Lutheran Church. As a young women, she lived on the family farm helping with the farm work and she remained there several years after her parents died. She then moved to Brooten and operated Goldie's Café. She was known as a very good cook and had served many of the school kids hot lunch. Her hamburgers were 20 cents and fries or mashed potatoes were 5 cents. When she was on the farm she made her famous frozen whipped cream pie. They had no refrigerator so it was made only in the winter and it would sit outside to freeze. Cool Whip has a recipe now for something that Goldie has been making for 60 years.
On June 29, 1961, Goldie was united in marriage to Bertyl Anders. They made their home in Brooten. Together they were able to share in 14 years of marriage before Bertyl's death on May 13, 1976. She moved to the Brooten apartments in 1997 where she lived until becoming a resident of the Belgrade Nursing Home this November.
Goldie had a great love for flowers, especially African Violets. She was a very organized person, keeping records of everything. She is remembered by her family as a very honest and giving person, who showed great kindness to everyone.
