W.C. Abbott Dies; L. I. Bank Founder
Resident of Babylon Also Was Treasurer Of Lintlenhurst Firm

Babylon, Sept. 26--Wilbur C. Abbott, 80, founder of the First National Bank of Lindenhurst and a manufacturer, died Sunday night at his home, 205 Fire Island Ave., here. He was born in Middlebury, Conn.

After graduation from Parker Academy in Woodbury, Conn., Mr. Abbott entered the mercantile business in Leominster, Mass. In 1883 when the Vulcanite Manufacturing Company moved its factory from Leominster to Lindenhurst, Mr. Abbott settled In Babylon. His activity in the company's affairs continued until his death. In 1936 Mr. Abbott retired from the superintendency but retained his post as treasurer.

FOUNDED BANK IN '07

Mr. Abbott founded the First National Bank of Lindenhurst in 1907 and served as its president until his retirement three years ago. He was chairman of the board of directors at his death.

Mr. Abbott was a life member of the Babylon Masonic Lodge and was one of the first trustees of the incorporated village of Babylon. He was for a long time active in church circles, having been superintendent of the Methodist Episcopal Sunday School for 22 years, and also treasurer, of the Ministerial Support Commission of the New York East Conference and a member of the Board of Managers of the Brooklyn and Long Island Church Extension Society. In 1930 he was named chairman of the Babylon committee of the Federal Council of Churches of Christ in America.

Mr. Abbott and his wife, the former Emma Susan Marshall, who survives, celebrated their golden wedding at their home here in 1930. They were married at Leominster Nov. 3, 1880.

GRANDFATHER WAS MINISTER

Mr. Abbott's grandfather was the Rev. Ira Abbott, who preached In the New York East Conference for 44 years. His uncle, the Rev. Bennett Abbott, was Methodist minister In Babylon in the early 80s.

Surviving, besides his widow, are four sons, Richard (sic) W. Abbott, Paul A. Abbott, Guilford C. Abbott and Fred B. Abbott, all of Babylon; a daughter, Mrs. Grace A. Smith of Babylon, and a brother, George F. Abbott of Middlebury.

Funeral services will be held In the home tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in Babylon Cemetery.
