Four tombstones that have been removed from their respective graves, presumably by vandals, are being held by the Oak Grove Cemetery Board.

Based on cemetery records, the markers do not appear to have come from Oak Grove.

Harold Helton of Conway, president of the Oak Grove board, hopes the appropriate people will come forward to claim them. Helton said the Conway Street Department found the tombstones about two months ago on Airport Hill.

"It would seem reasonable that they came from here, but we don't have any records that I can find on these people," he said.

Sondra Johnson of Conway is performing a census of Oak Grove Cemetery now, Helton said. Prior to this, records of who is buried in the cemetery had not been updated since 1987, he said.

The markers read:

"Uriel B. Alford, 1905-1963."

"Thomas Patrick Cassidy, June 25, 1943-July 11, 1984."

"Aul Harvey Bass, Born and died Jan. 8, 1943. Gone to be an angel."

"In memory of M.E. Pullen, B.F. Pullen, born March 20, 1861, died Feb. 14, 1911, Gone but not forgotten."

Johnson may have found where the Cassidy marker belongs, Helton said.

Helton may be reached at 358-0365.
