Judith & Darling came to Anson county just after the Revolutionary war from Mecklenburg County, Virginia.
Darling was a revolutionary soldier and was killed by his slave. The slave, Mose, fearing that his master was going to sell him, got his master's gun and shot him down, at the chimney end of the house. Mose was the first man hanged in Anson County, North Carolina.

Drury, Darling, Gray and Meredith Allen, four of the sons of William Allen of Mecklenburg County [Virginia], migrated to Anson County, North Carolina after the death of their father. Darling settled there in 1792 and in 1798, Drury Allen of Mecklenburg County, Virginia pruchased land adjoining that of Darling Allen. All four of the brothers were listed in the 1800 census of Anson County, North Carolina. Meredith returned to Henry County, Virginia about 1812, but the other three brothers died in Anson County.
