Donald W. Dunning, 62 of Pontiac, died on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 3:10 PM at OSF St. James/ John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the Martin Funeral Home in Pontiac, with a prayer service to follow, conducted by Pastor Dieter Punt of the First Lutheran Church. Cremation Rites will be accorded after the services. Memorials in Donald's name may be left to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Don was born on December 13, 1947 in Harrisburg, IL a son of Clarence B. "Bert" and Betty (Hicks) Dunning. He married Millie Cashmer on July 13, 1998 in Pontiac.
He is survived by his wife: Millie Dunning of Pontiac, IL, two daughters: Paula Lanning of La Porte, TX and Tonya (Steven) Sandefer of La Porte, TX, one son: Chris (Alicia) Dunning of Franklin, IN, one adopted son: Matthew Schott of Pontiac, five step children: Chuck (Cindy) Schott of Pontiac, Bonita (Mike) Upts of Roanoke, IL, Robin (Dennis) Westerhold of Streator, IL Marsha Cummins of Streator, IL and Robert (Theresa) Schott of Odell, IL, Ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, twenty three step grandchildren and nine step great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother: Ron (Jean) Dunning of Cornell, IL and his sister: Betty Jean Decker of Pontiac. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons: Donald W. Dunning Jr. and Chad Jeffrey Dunning.
Don graduated from Cornell High School and Lincoln Tech School in Indianapolis, IN with a degree in mechanics. He was a truck driver with various companies in the area. He had received a certificate for driving over a million miles with no accidents or tickets. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Pontiac. He was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan. He enjoyed motorcycles and racing. Don had a wonderful sense of humor and was known to give you a hard time. Once he met you he was your friend for life. He loved his friends and family greatly.
