William T. "Bill" Adelman Jr., 67, of 801 Sheridan Road, Normal, died at 2:05 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 29, 2004) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
His funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington, and at noon that day at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal, with Monsignor Thomas Maloney and the Rev. Ric Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the rosary recited at 3:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Central Catholic High School Foundation Fund, St. Mary's Church or Epiphany Life Teen Ministry.
He was born Sept. 25, 1936, at Springfield, the son of William T. and Dorothy Harbaur Adelman. He married Nadine D. Keeley on Jan. 31, 1959, at Springfield. She survives.
Other survivors include four daughters, Michelle (Stephen) Newbold, Bloomington; Kathy (Doug) Atkins, Bloomington; Susan (John) Brady, Roselle; and Vicki (Paul) Hamill, Woodstock; three sons, Timothy (Ann) Adelman, Roselle; Joseph (Debbie) Adelman, Normal; and Billy (Kim) Adelman, Bloomington; one sister, Eileen (Glenn) Jacobs, Springfield; 19 grandchildren, Andy, Stevie and Kristi Newbold; Jackie, Alexis and Nate Atkins; Marie, Timmy, Sarah and Emily Adelman; Brandon and Brittany Adelman; Mary Brady; Maddie, Charlie and Ricky Adelman; and Keeley, Corrie and Danny Hamill. One brother-in-law, Charles Sonnenberg, Springfield, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
His parents and one sister preceded him in death.
Bill graduated from Cathedral Boys High School in Springfield and Springfield Junior College in 1956. He was also a 1959 graduate of the University of Illinois with his degree in electrical engineering. He served in the U. S. Navy Reserve. He worked at General Telephone Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1994 as a network engineering director. He owned and operated Adelman Home Inspections for 10 years.
He was a registered professional engineer; a charter member and past president of the Bloomington-Normal Chapter of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers; he served on the city of Normal Electrical Commission Board for 20 years. He served on several committees for the Illinois Telephone Association and was a member of the Walter G. Wright Telephone Pioneers.
Bill was a honorary life member and charter member of the Rev. Thomas Carmody Council, Knights of Columbus, Normal, and was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Bloomington Council. He was a member of and Eucharistic minister at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal. He was past president of the Central Catholic High School School Board, was a committeeman for the CCHS Foundation Fund. He was an avid CCHS sports booster and fan.
He volunteered for the United Way and was a supporter of the Central Illinois Down Syndrome Organization.
