Educated in New York as a teacher, Erasmus Allen was a well known newspaper editor and publisher of Lenawee Co. Michigan. He was editor and publisher of 'The Morenci Star' and 'The Morenci Observer' (which was originally known as the 'New Era' and first published in 1871). In 1875 he went to Detroit and was the publisher of the 'Michigan Christian Advocate'. The newspaper at Morenci was re-named the 'State Line Observer' in 1875 and was published by his sons (Augustus and Vernon Allen) for a number of years, eventually receiving it's present name, the 'Morenci Observer'
